WILMINGTON, NC – A Las Vegas business owner was sentenced to more than 14 years in prison for defrauding more than $ 13 million over two years on the North Carolina Medicaid program, according to a federal prosecutor.
Citing court documents, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District said Latisha Harron, 44, was also ordered to repay more than $ 13 million to the program on charges of conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and cable fraud be.
Harron was sentenced on Tuesday.
According to a press release, Harron admitted conspiring with her husband to bill the government for fictional home health services between 2017 and 2019. She also admitted to running the scam by looking up information on obituaries that gave her a Medicaid identification number and then “counting back” the state for services it allegedly provided before the person died.
Harron also admitted working with her husband to launder the cash to purchase a $ 900,000 private jet, luxury jewelry and clothing, and real estate in North Carolina.
