NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nevada (KTNV) – Dozens of new manufacturing jobs are coming to North Las Vegas.

Vancouver-based Evanesce, a company that makes plant-based take-away containers and cutlery, is part of a recent wave of companies to move north of the city.

This production facility should create 120 new jobs at the start. City guides say it’s part of the first wave of new, exciting opportunities in North Las Vegas.

“We actually hired our first three people for the factory and we will be adding many more people in the near future,” said Scott Duddy, COO of Evanesce.

Evanesce has a factory on the east coast in South Carolina and is now growing his ambitions on the west coast.

“The access and location of the Las Vegas market itself just made a lot of sense,” said Duddy. “Of all the single-use plastics and styrofoam used today and hopefully part of the future solution for Las Vegas.”

Evanesce is the fourth company announced in North Las Vegas in six weeks. It joins Ball Corp., Nuro and Tapestry.

“Since the pandemic started, we’ve seen a huge influx of companies wanting to come here,” said John Lee, mayor of North Las Vegas.

All of this will result in a total of 1,000 new jobs over the next few years.

“We love people who travel here and enjoy their vacation,” said Lee. “But we also want that if something happens to the economy again, we shouldn’t be so committed to the shutdown of the airlines or the shutdown of the business by the governor.”

For a city that continues to fight its way out of a rut of recession, the leaders of North Las Vegas say the additional jobs will help their city become the most tax-stable in the valley.

In fact, I think unfortunately we still have the highest unemployment rate in the state, said Jared Luke, director of government affairs for North Las Vegas. “Coming after this pandemic means the world – not only for us as employees of the city, but for the residents themselves – that they have sustainable, long-term employment opportunities that have been lacking for some time.”

The new factory will open in the first three months of next year at 5445 E. North Belt Road in North Las Vegas.
