LAS VEGAS (FOX5) – Wednesday night, new glittering arches were lit leading into downtown Las Vegas.

The 80-foot-high “Gateway Arches” at the foot of the Strat Hotel on Las Vegas Boulevard lit up at sunset, the city announced. The arches glow blue every night and mark the “entrance” to the city of Las Vegas.

“Las Vegas is known around the world as a haven for the best entertainment, fun, dining and convention businesses,” Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman said in a statement. “What better way to invite everyone to historic downtown than to step through this massive new archway into the heart of a revitalized Las Vegas?”

Dianne Chui, pharmacy manager at Curaleaf, said The construction of the Las Vegas Boulevard Improvement Project has made vehicle and pedestrian traffic difficult.

“It has been very difficult to build, especially for businesses, and we very much hope it will boost traffic, especially when the new sidewalks are built soon. But it will also be much safer for pedestrians to walk around this area, ”said Chui.

She said they hope the archway will be a bright focal point coming from the southern part of the strip to the north point. She added that the arches bring a modern, revitalized addition to an older part of the city.

“There have been many companies that have been closed or changed. We’re one of the newer companies out here, which has really helped revitalize this neighborhood. With downtown thriving, this species fills those gaps between the Strip and downtown. So I’m really seeing a lot of growth out here, ”said Chui.

The arches were designed by Selbert Perkins Design and designed and installed by YESCO, known for the famous “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign near the Las Vegas Strip.

“YESCO has a long history of manufacturing, installing and servicing the most internationally recognized Las Vegas signs. The Gateway Arches are the latest monumental addition to this portfolio,” said Jeff Young, YESCO chief marketing officer, in a statement. “This project is history in the making and we are proud to have worked with the City of Las Vegas and Selbert Perkins Design to bring it to life.”

There are more than 900 LED lamps on the south side of the hanging “Las Vegas” cabinet. Four foundations were drilled with a drill rig and are 20 feet deep and 4 feet wide, with a steel reinforced cage.
