LAS VEGAS (FOX5) – The Smith Center for the Performing Arts is encouraging artists, art lovers, and fans of the venue to submit their artwork that will highlight cherished memories at the center.
According to a press release, interested parties can submit photos of their artwork from April 6 to May 20, and any visual creative medium is welcome.
The Smith Center announces that after the center reopens, it will showcase the top three pieces from each age category in its lobby. The winners will also attend a private reception with Myron Martin, President and CEO of the Smith Center.
The Smith Center visual arts competition includes the following three age categories:
- Students aged 6 to 11 (parental permission required)
- Students aged 12 to 17 (parental permission required)
- Adults over 18 years
According to the publication, attendees can submit artwork that depicts a “special memory of the Smith Center” that could include inspiration, such as: a family show they enjoyed, a world-class artist they saw there, special events, they took part in, the hustle and bustle in the grand lobby of the center, the art deco architecture of the center and much more. “
Entries will be judged on the success of the artwork, telling a story inspired by a passion for the art, and / or celebrating the importance of the Smith Center in the community, according to the release notes.
“The temporary closure of the Smith Center during the pandemic was the greatest challenge our nonprofit has ever faced. We miss our guests and they tell us that they miss gathering in our center to experience the joy of performing live, ”said Martin. “This visual arts call for entries is an invitation to celebrate all of the special experiences we share together at the Smith Center. We look forward to many more as we reopen.”
The venue only accepts one entry per person. A work of art must be a single piece that was not created by a group. Each entry must be an original work by the submitting artist and must not violate United States copyright laws, the organization said.
According to the publication, accepted media are a pencil or pen drawing, mixed media, a painting, a drawing with markers, pastels or colored pencils, a 3D collage, a photo, a sculpture or another visual art medium.
