LAS VEGAS (AP) – A person who opened fire on a crowd of young people in a parking lot in Las Vegas early Friday, injuring six of them, is dead after an unknown person fired back, authorities said.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the shooting occurred shortly after midnight in a parking lot of a store east of McCarran International Airport.
A police statement said a group of older teenagers was hanging around and drinking when an argument broke out and a man went and pulled a gun from a vehicle. He opened fire on the crowd and injured six teenagers.
Someone shot back and hit the shooter.
Police in Las Vegas and near Henderson received multiple calls about wounded people being taken to nearby hospitals by private individuals after the shooting. Las Vegas police said the man they identified with the original shooter died in a hospital and the six wounded teenagers are staying in the hospital.
The police only said that the victims were “older teenagers” and not whether they were male or female. They ask anyone involved or witnesses to the shooting to call the police.
