LAS VEGAS (AP) – A university study predicts that the population in and around Las Vegas will continue to boom over the next four decades.

The Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, released a report on Wednesday predicting that Clark County’s population will grow from 2.4 million today to 3 million in less than 15 years and to 3 million by 2060 , 4 million should grow.

The center prepares its annual population forecast on behalf of the local government planning and transport authorities.

Center director Andrew Woods noted that the population of southern Nevada is only a forecast.

But he said it showed a 17% increase in the projected population from just four years ago and said it was important to have information for making decisions about schools, public safety and health, utilities, affordable housing and water.

“It is important that our community leaders make decisions using the latest data,” said Woods.

According to the report, people are moving to the region primarily from the West, Midwest and Northeast states.

Nevada has seen the same migration since the Great Recession ended and has forecast the trend will continue despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
