A Las Vegas doctor, wellness advocate, and lifestyle blogger, Dr. Audrey Sue Cruz a lot.
Now she’s a Barbie doll too.
Mattel has added six new Barbie dolls to its range, each modeled on the “modern heroes of the pandemic”.
The doll that Dr. Cruz is now available from Target, with $ 5 of each purchase going to the First Responders Children’s Foundation.
During the pandemic, Cruz worked as a front line worker in both hospitals and clinics.
The Las Vegas doctor also wrote about her life as a health care professional, posting wellness content and working with fellow Asian-American doctors to create a viral video with the hashtag #IAmNotAVirus.
“I am incredibly honored to be a Barbie role model that sheds light on the commitment and compassion of all frontline staff over the past year and a half,” says Cruz. “Children imagine they could be anything, but they see they can, and hearing the brave stories of others makes all the difference.”
The other five dolls are Dr. Chika Stacy Oriuwa from Canada, Professor Sarah Gilbert from Great Britain, Dr. Jaqueline Goes de Jesus from Brazil, Dr. Modeled after Kirby White from Australia and sister Amy O’Sullivan from New York.
“Barbie recognizes that all frontline employees have made tremendous sacrifices in dealing with the pandemic and the challenges it poses,” said Lisa McKnight, senior vice president and global head of Barbie & Dolls, Mattel. “To shed light on their efforts, we’re sharing their stories and using Barbie’s platform to inspire the next generation to pursue these heroes and give something back.”
