The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) 2021 show has been canceled.
The fair, which was supposed to take place in Las Vegas from October 9th to 13th, is not being pushed forward. The trade group said in a statement on Wednesday that “the pandemic and the surge in the Delta variant have unfortunately occurred unexpectedly”. and insurmountable challenges for our global community. “
“Having always considered the best interests and safety of the industry as our priority, in the face of these challenges, it has become apparent that we can no longer effectively host the NAB show or our joint events, the radio show and sales, at Management Television Exchange in person “, The statement goes on to say.
The 2020 edition of the show went virtual due to the pandemic, with NAB planning a lighter in-person show for October. However, a number of key participants, including Sony and Canon, have withdrawn in recent weeks.
The fair is the newest issue in the media and entertainment calendar to reevaluate its plans in the wake of the delta variant of COVID-19. Vaccination prescriptions and rapid tests have become commonplace at live events, and while the NAB show previously advised attendees that proof of vaccination was required to attend, precautions weren’t enough to keep the show going as business travel rebounded slowed down.
The show is one of the biggest on the calendar for broadcasters and technology providers, with around 90,000 attendees at its last in-person conference in 2019.
The 2022 show is slated to take place in Las Vegas in April.
