Elon Musk’s tunneling company has just received the green light for its largest project to date.

Nevada’s Clark County on Wednesday approved plans for the Vegas Loop, a 29-mile network of tunnels under the Las Vegas Strip. It builds on The Boring Company’s first completed project, a 2.7 mile loop to carry passengers around the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The Boring Company aims to reduce traffic in cities by building underground roads that will be served by Tesla vehicle fleets. Musk’s original plans were for van-sized Teslas that could drive autonomously, but the company now relies on regular Teslas with human drivers.

Critics say the tunnel systems are nothing more than a less efficient version of a subway.

The new Vegas Loop will have 51 stations in Las Vegas and accommodate 57,000 passengers per hour, says The Boring Company. It will stop at many of the city’s iconic casinos and the city’s new stadium. It should be a point-to-point system that allows passengers to get directly to their destination without stopping at each station, reports the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The loop will not require taxpayers’ money. The Boring Company will pay the construction costs and pay the county a quarterly fee based on how much money it makes on the fares, the point of sale said.

The project, which has been in the works for years, is a huge win for The Boring Company, whose plans never came to fruition in several other cities such as Los Angeles and Chicago. It’s also a success for the rest of the Musk ecosystem, which requires a large fleet of Tesla vehicles and brings thousands of potential customers to the electric vehicles.

The tunneling company is also in talks to build a transit system in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
