State officials are hosting a job fair in Las Vegas early next month.

The job fair, called JobFest 2021, will be held in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on December 7, and many employers are planning to hire locally, officials said Tuesday. The job fair is expected to attract more than 110 employers who will hire more than 10,000 jobs.

Governor Steve Sisolak, the Department of Employment, Education and Rehabilitation, and the Governor’s Economic Development Office are hosting the job fair, which also includes skills training and COVID-19 and flu vaccinations. Parking and entry are free.

“We make sure that job seekers find employment that suits their family and lifestyle,” said Elisa Cafferata, director of labor.

More employers are being added to the job fair every day, and the state wants to create high-paying jobs and help Nevadaans get those jobs, Sisolak said in a written statement.

“For me, there is no more important priority than Nevada’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic,” Sisolak said.

Nevada consistently has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, and Clark County has the highest unemployment rate in the state.

The state economy continues to rely on the hospitality, gaming and tourism industries, which were badly hit at the beginning of the pandemic. Gambling bounced back with record profits in 2021, while the hospitality and tourism industries – as well as their staffing – recovered more slowly.

The state unemployment rate has fallen every month this year, dropping to 7.3 percent in October.

“The availability of jobs is a real indicator that Nevada’s economy is recovering,” said Executive Director of the Bureau of Economic Development Michael Brown.

He suggested that job seekers visit nv.emsiskills.com for job vacancies and information on how to acquire skills. Nevada JobConnect and other agencies will be there to connect job seekers with resources to learn new skills and find new careers, officials said in a press release.

Employers expected at the Jobfest include Amazon, Arizona Charlie’s, Boyd Gaming Corp., Caesars Entertainment Inc., Clark County, Nevada State, MGM Resorts International, Las Vegas Urban League, University Medical Center, and Vegas PBS.

The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services and Immunize Nevada will offer attendees COVID-19 vaccines and booster shots, as well as flu shots. The press release notes that COVID-19 vaccines are approved for children aged 5 and over and that several employers require vaccination as a condition of employment.
