LAS VEGAS (KTNV) – A mask mandate will soon come into effect in the Las Vegas area, requiring employees in Clark County to wear masks while at work.

Max Pawn’s workers are already masked. The pawnshop’s policy comes when Clark County commissioners voted Tuesday to reintroduce a mask mandate for all indoor workers amid rising COVID-19 cases.

Max Pawn owner Michael Mack says he is all there to keep everyone safe.

“We want to stay in business. We want our customers to be healthy. We want our employees to be healthy, ”he said.

Mack says his business has been proactively masking employees and says masks work to protect his workers and customers.

“I travel to Asia a lot. If you have a cold you wear a mask. They don’t spread these common diseases or germs anywhere, ”he said.

RJ Khalaf, Director of Operations at Kalifano, also endorses the move, saying that many of his workers in his shops on the Strip continue to mask themselves with so many visitors dropping by.

“Most people wanted to wear masks anyway because it’s so international. So many people are traveling through the malls at any one time, ”he said.

He says this is a way to avoid closings as he cannot afford to close again as his businesses are finally getting back on their feet.

“The shutdown was absolutely brutal for our business and we barely made it, and luckily business has recovered and now it’s going strong,” he said.

Mack says he encourages customers to mask themselves when they walk in and hopes this will make a difference.

“Now everyone is masked. It’s really not a big deal to us and we look forward to seeing those numbers go down, ”he said.

The new mandate comes into effect on July 22nd at midnight and lasts until August 17th.
