LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Not only does the Las Vegas community offer condolences and support to the father of a seven-year-old who was allegedly killed by his mother, but also communities in other states.
Liam Husted was found in a hiking area near Mountain Springs between Las Vegas and Pahrump.
Samantha Moreno Rodriguez, 35, is in police custody. She was arrested in Denver on Tuesday and is due to be extradited to Nevada.
Meanwhile, people from all over the country have taken to social media with news for the little boy they didn’t even know. A memorial was erected by strangers where the boy was found and a Facebook page called Justice for Liam Husted was set up.
Liam’s father’s friends and family raised funds for a funeral through GoFundMe. There has been no shortage of people who show how much this case hit them.
Many comments on social media ask, “How can a mother do this to her own child?”
In San Jose, California, where Liam lived with his mother and father, neighbors express their shock as they prepare for a vigil in honor of the boy Thursday.
“Sad to be a mother too,” said Patricia. “It’s very sad; that’s why I brought something here for Liam.”
Police have not disclosed a motive for the murder, but Liam’s father told police that Moreno Rodriguez packed her things in May and left with the 7-year-old.
How he died is not yet known.
