A Las Vegas couple with no known medical training are charged with alleged botox injections in clients’ lips.
In Nevada, botox injections require a prescription that must be given in a medical facility by a registered doctor who can screen the patient for allergies and medical history, according to an arrest report from the Metropolitan Police Department.
“Coco Labios”, the name means “Coco Lips”, did not meet any of these requirements, the police say.
Kenny and Olga Girchenko, who police say are running the business, were admitted to the Clark County Detention Center last week for serving as unlicensed nurses and unlicensed doctors. They were released on their own after the Las Vegas Justice Court appeared on Saturday, on condition that they stay out of anger and stop performing cosmetic procedures, court transcripts show.
Olga Girchenko has been charged on two other counts of obtaining money, property, rent or work under false pretenses, records show.
The business was advertised on social media, police said.
A woman found out about the deal on Instagram and had booked an appointment in July. She was escorted to an apartment on 3600 block on Palos Verde Street near Paradise Road, where she met “Coco” and a male guard, police said.
The injections cost the woman US $ 650, but she had an allergic reaction “and then a cosmetic problem,” at a second appointment on August 2, police said.
On the same day, the woman contacted the Nevada State Board of Nursing and Metro’s special investigative department, which is reviewing business licenses, police said. The Nevada prosecutor’s office also stepped in, and Metro opened an investigation.
The company was not registered in Nevada or anywhere else in the United States, police said.
Police learned that “Coco Labios” moved often, but eventually found an operation at Block 6400 on Dinning Avenue, near Torrey Pines Drive and US Highway 95.
After two days of surveillance, police ransacked the house on Friday when two women showed up and said they had booked botox injections. On the premises, the police found a medical bed, medical accessories and business cards with a “Coco Labios” logo.
The police then drove over the Girchenkos and found botox, bloody gauzes and needles in their SUV.
The male suspect fled, the police said. Before Olga Girchenko asked for a lawyer, she told them she was a massage therapist and didn’t know anything about a business called “Coco Labios”.
No lawyers were listed in the booking logs for either of the suspects.
A status review hearing for both suspects was scheduled for November 15, the Las Vegas Justice Court minutes show.
