Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman is an independent and former Democrat, but she and Nevada Republican Party leader Michael McDonald agree on 2024 – they are pushing for Las Vegas to host the Republican National Convention .
Goodman took to Twitter Monday to announce that Las Vegas had responded to a Republican National Committee invitation to a number of cities to submit a proposal to host the party’s 2024 presidential nominations convention.

“Las Vegas is the premier corporate and convention destination. The Republican National Committee understood this and asked Las Vegas to respond to a bid for the 2024 National Congress. Las Vegas is open for business, “announced the mayor in her tweet.
“For me, this request is not about politics, but about bringing back millions of dollars in convention business into our local economy,” said Goodman in an accompanying statement. “Nobody does conventions and conferences better than Las Vegas, and our community is ready for this big economic boost.”
In a statement a few hours later, McDonald said, “This is a great opportunity for our city and state to bring business back to the world’s congressional capital from millions of dollars to Nevada. We looked forward to the opportunity to showcase this in 2020 and are confident that Las Vegas is the right place to hold the convention in 2024. “
The RNC told Fox News that the invitations – allegedly sent to a few dozen cities – are the first step in the process and that responses must be returned to the national party committee no later than December 1st.

While Las Vegas has long been known as a top destination for large conferences and events, it has never hosted a national political convention. And while Goodman announced their support, such a gathering would likely take place in adjacent Clark County, where the famous Las Vegas Strip and the city’s famous international airport are located. The Las Vegas Convention Center, T-Mobile Arena, and Allegiant Stadium could be potential venues for any conference.
Hosting the fourth competition on the GOP presidency nomination calendar, Nevada is a key state on the general election battlefield that President Biden led by a narrow margin over former President Trump in last November’s election.
RNC chairman Ronna McDaniel told Fox News last month that the early steps of some cities hoping to host the 2024 GOP presidential nomination conference are already underway.
“I know it seems so far away, but these requests for proposals and cities applying for this process are happening right now,” McDaniel said in early August before the RNC’s summer meeting.

Cities interested in hosting Congress in 2024 include Nashville, Tennessee, where the summer meeting was held. The RNC site selection committee for Congress 2024 was formally selected at the Nashville meeting.
