(The Center Square) – A Las Vegas man on federal charges was sentenced to repay $ 4.3 million to North Carolina’s Medicaid program after joining the healthcare fraud conspiracy, the Guilty of wire fraud, grievous identity theft, and conspiracy for money laundering.
North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein said Timothy Harron and his wife Latisha Harron pleaded guilty to being billed to the state Medicaid program for counterfeit home health services through their firm Agape Healthcare Systems, a Medicaid provider of Roanoke Rapids to have.
“This person used millions of dollars that should have gone into people’s health care to fund his extravagant lifestyle,” Stein said. “If vendors cheat taxpayers and waste resources, my office will hold them accountable.”
Timothy Harron admitted that he and his wife searched public records to find information about North Carolinians who died and were enrolled with Medicaid, Stein said. They then created fictional home health services and billed them to the Medicaid program.
The Harrons billed the program more than $ 10 million between 2017 and 2019, Stein said. The Harrons have laundered the money into luxury items, including a private jet, hundreds of thousands of dollars in jewelry and clothing, fitness equipment, and real estate.
Harron was sentenced to 144 months in federal prison, Stein said on Tuesday. Latisha Harron pleaded guilty to similar charges in May. She was sentenced to 170 months in prison and three years of supervised release and sentenced to $ 300 in special trials. The Harrons will also lose the luxuries they bought with taxpayers’ money, including a private jet, sports car, pickup truck, designer jewelry, North Carolina real estate, and more than $ 13 million in cash.
The North Carolina Attorney General’s Medicaid Investigations Division, which investigates fraud and abuse by healthcare companies and state and federal program providers, has recovered more than $ 900 million in reimbursements and fines for North Carolina.
