The Clark County Commission on Monday voted to require masks for all indoor employees regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status, but has no longer required them for tourists and the general public.

The vote on Monday’s emergency session came after the Southern Nevada Health District recommended masks for everyone last week amid rising COVID-19 cases in Las Vegas.

The CDC named Clark County a “sustainable hotspot” on July 18, referring to what it describes as “communities with high persistent caseload and potentially higher risk for health resource constraints.”

Commissioner Jim Gibson quoted the threat to the Las Vegas tourism industry at Monday’s meeting.

“We’ve already done a shutdown and start-up,” said Gibson. “We cannot afford big congresses to go elsewhere.”
