LAS VEGAS (KTNV) – Long-time KLAS-TV Channel 8 presenter Gary Waddell passed away on Thursday evening, according to his ex-wife Chrisse Waddell. He was 77.
Waddell died as a result of COVID-19. He was fully vaccinated, but longtime Las Vegan also suffered from a number of significant comorbidities.
Waddell was a KLAS anchor from 1980 until his retirement in 2012.
Prior to joining CBS’s Southern Nevada subsidiary, Waddell, a member of the Nevada Broadcast Hall of Fame, served as a presenter, reporter, and weatherman on KORK-TV (now KSNV) Channel 3 for four years.
“Despite the fact that we divorced legally, we remained a family all these years,” said Chrisse Waddell. “My family was his family. We all feel the loss, as do Gary’s many friends and the people who have admired his work for decades.
“I can’t tell you how happy we were that Gary was recognized and showered with affection everywhere he went. That was true in Las Vegas, Hawaii, Mexico, even in Europe on a motorcycle trip. The appreciation and affection were so meaningful to Gary and our family. “
Funeral services are due.
Chrisse Waddell asked for data protection during this difficult time.
