A woman who was fatally shot and killed at a house party in east Las Vegas on Sunday morning was a member of the Nevada Army National Guard, the organization said.

Graciela Gomez, 22, was killed early Sunday morning at a house party on the 200 block on Beesley Drive. Police said five men were denied entry to the house and later drove past the area and fired “multiple shots”.

The Las Vegas resident died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, and her death has been classified as murder.

Gomez graduated from Las Vegas High School and was a member of the Las Vegas-based 17th Sustainment Brigade, the National Guard said. In a statement, Brigadier General Troy Armstrong remembered her as “an exceptional soldier”.

“It is worth noting that she last answered the call and has shown great dedication and extraordinary service to her community over the past year while serving on the Las Vegas COVID-19 Task Force that our state has on the Coping with the pandemic will help, “he said called. “We are very sad to hear of this tragic death.”

A GoFundMe page had raised over $ 25,000 by Thursday night.

Gomez was in high school on the Partnership at Las Vegas, or PAL program, said Robert Bray, who teaches math and economics at the school. He remembered Gomez as an enthusiastic student, a daredevil who always came into class with a smile.

“Grace was unique,” he said. “She was just such a beautiful young woman. Everyone adored her. You couldn’t find anyone who didn’t like her. “

The police have not yet provided any information about the investigation into her death.
