LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Nevada casinos grossed $ 1.36 billion in July, surpassing May’s record of $ 1.23 billion.
The numbers released Thursday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board show strong growth for casinos across the state, but especially the casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, which won 58% of the state’s grand total – $ 798.6 million.
July gaming profit includes Resorts World’s first full month of operations on the Strip.
Nevada Gaming Control Board analyst Michael Lawton described July in Las Vegas as the “perfect storm for game wins related to special events.”
In addition to the Resorts World opening, July also had five weekends, the return of several Cirque du Soleil shows and headline concerts, and saw the game of baccarat skyrocket from international guests.
Lawton referred to shows by entertainers Bruno Mars in Park MGM, Usher in the Colosseum in Caesars Palace and Garth Brooks in Allegiant Stadium, a UFC event with Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier in the T-Mobile Arena and the CONCACAF Gold Cup final between the USA and Mexico at the end of the month.
Casinos on the Strip saw earnings growth of approximately $ 188 million in one month, June through July.
The money was back on the Strip this month after downtown Las Vegas and the Boulder Strip both saw big gains last month.
Overall, the state’s gaming profit grew 79.6% compared to July 2020.
The big win also means gaming revenue for the state has increased – 202% higher than the fees charged by the state last year.
Nevada has now topped $ 1 billion in nationwide gaming earnings for five consecutive months, confirming predictions by many analysts that “pent-up demand” would produce big results when the casino business returns.
New mask mandates launched on July 30th could show their impact on casino profits in reports next month.
