Nevada’s first night court program, designed to make it easier to attend city court hearings, opens next week in North Las Vegas.

The North Las Vegas Municipal Court will hold traffic crime sessions monthly, starting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday

Chris Lee, the city court’s chief judge, helped shape the night court sessions as part of the City Community Approach to Rehabilitation and Engagement Program, which, according to a press release, offers distraction programs that focus on rehabilitating people with minor offenses.

“I’ve seen a lot of people in court taking the day off to process their ticket or bringing their children along because they’d have to find childcare during the day,” Lee said in the press release. “Many of them are already struggling to pay traffic fines, which adds to the burden of the lack of work to process their tickets. We offer them a better option. “

The city court plans to expand the number of sessions and types of crimes tried in the night court upon request, the statement said.
