Las Vegas tourists will soon be able to enjoy views of the American West without leaving the Strip when a new attraction opens this fall.
On Pursuit’s new FlyOver ride, participants will strap themselves into their seats and glide through locations like the Las Vegas Strip, Grand Canyon, and Lake Tahoe while surrounded by a high-resolution, 52-foot spherical screen. The multi-sensory ride also includes music, scents, fog and the feeling of wind as the seats move in six different directions to reproduce the feeling of sitting in a helicopter. The ride opens on Las Vegas Boulevard next to the Hard Rock Cafe.
Pursuit has similar overflight cruises in Vancouver, Canada and Iceland.
The total experience is 30 minutes. The first part of the experience consists of interactive pre-shows where guests can learn about the western United States and its people, according to Lisa Adams, vice president of FlyOver Attractions.
From there, the guests go to one of the two driving theaters – each with its own spherical screen and 40 seats – buckle up and get ready for the trip. The drivers will go through scenes from 10 different states in the west.
“There will also be places you’ve never seen before that you can’t walk or take a plane to, but we did it,” she said.
Adams noted that there are similarities between Pursuits Rides and Soarin ‘at Disney California Adventure, as they are both flyover rides, but the start is different for each. For Soarin ‘the guests enter at ground level and are lifted into the air; for FlyOver guests boarding at a higher level and their seat slides out towards the screen.
Adams said Pursuit will consider state and federal COVID-19 requirements to determine what safety precautions they will take when they open this fall. She said the current safety precautions they take on their open rides include wearing masks, limited capacity and cleaning after each ride.
Since there will be two different driving theaters, the American West may not be the only place for attendees to visit. There may be other offers depending on the season.
“You can see America’s west and Canada maybe, or you can see America’s west and Iceland,” said Adams.
