It’s nice to see automotive concours events (almost) in full swing again as none of us have been able to enjoy beautiful collector cars in a quiet outdoor setting for more than a year. However, there is one aspect of a Concours that gets far less attention than the vehicles themselves, and that is the meaningful charities that have abruptly stopped donations with the temporary suspension of these shows.
The fundraiser has gotten back on its feet, however, as the Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance, founded by Stuart Sobek in 2019, returns this year and is taking place for the second time with more than 100 automobiles waiting for display. The exhibition presented by Towbin Motorcars of Las Vegas will benefit Miracle Flights, a national non-profit organization founded in 1985. The Las Vegas-based organization provides free air transportation to children and adults who need help reaching specialized medical care far from home. The setback to commercial air travel during the pandemic was significant, but the need for medical air transportation did not diminish. During that time, thanks to the generosity of donors across the country, Miracle Flights was providing assistance to patients and families across the United States with more than 600 life-saving flights each month.

The Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance 2021 will be preceded by two days of preshow celebrations before the main event takes place on October 23 at the Las Vegas Ballpark in Summerlin. The facility’s playing field will set the stage for cars on display from major private collections and museums across the country. In 2019, for example, the only 1938 Hispano-Suiza Dubonnet Xenia (opening picture) was an award-winning entry.

Visitors to the Las Vegas Concours can see the cars up close and have a bird’s eye view of the stadium seats. With plenty of fins, this year’s brand is Cadillac, while 14 other graded classes include Pre-1916 and Vintage, American and European Classics through 1948, Prewar Sports, Auburn Cord Duesenberg, Postwar Sports and Racing, and Supercars 1971 through 1990.

Prestigious awards include the Helene Awards, which recognize the achievements of certain people, and the Best in Show, which is given to the most coveted collector’s car. A final highlight is the Tour d’Elegance on the final day, during which many of the legendary four-wheel drive vehicles demonstrate on the Las Vegas Strip.
