Well it is time.

Two Las Vegas-based sports operations – UFC’s Dana White and Las Vegas Motor Speedway – will meet on September 26th at the Grand Speedway at the north end of the Las Vegas metro area for NASCAR’s South Point 400 race.

White, a sidekick of Donald Trump, and NASCAR, one of the more politically conservative sports companies, seem like a natural marriage.

And on the last Sunday in September, White will act as Grand Marshal of the race, giving the orders to start the engines.

UFC and NASCAR, finally together.

Sports betting is becoming increasingly popular: The American Gaming Association says that according to AGA research, a record 45.2 million Americans (18%) plan to bet on the 2021 National Football League (NFL) season. That’s 36 percent more Americans betting on league games this season than last year.

Why the increase: “The expansion of the legal sports betting options and overall increased enthusiasm for the coming season. Fans in 18 states and Washington, DC had access to operational, legal sports betting at the start of the 2020 season. As the 2021 season begins, Americans will be able to place legal sports bets in 26 states and Washington, DC, with five more states likely to offer legal sports bets by the end of the season. *

Bill Miller, President and CEO of AGA: “It is important that by the start of the 2021 NFL season, more than 111 million * American adults can safely bet with regulated sports betting in their home states rather than the predatory illegal market.”

While NFL betting is expected to increase across all betting methods, online sports betting bets are expected to see the largest increase over 2020, while illegal bookmakers are expected to see the slowest growth:

  • 21.7 million American adults will be casually betting with friends on the 2021 NFL season, up 31 percent from 2020.
  • 19.5 million will place bets online (legal and illegal), an increase of 73 percent compared to 2020.
  • 14.6 million will participate in a paid fantasy competition or other type of pool competition, up 69 percent from 2021.
  • 10.5 million will place a bet with a physical casino sportsbook, up 58 percent from 2020.
  • 6.7 million will place a bet with a bookmaker, an increase of 13 percent compared to 2020.

AGA studies also show the significant value of sports betting to the league: 37 percent of NFL fans plan to bet on this year’s NFL season, including nearly half (47%) of the self-proclaimed avid NFL fans. Additionally, 44 percent of Americans and 63 percent of NFL fans believe that on-site sports betting increases the entertainment value of in-person participation in sporting events.
