NHP spokeswoman Ashlee Wellman later said that at 6:58 a.m., a northbound Honda crashed into the rear of an 18-wheel drive
“For reasons unknown, the (driver of) Honda was unable to slow down,” Wellman said.
The Honda landed on the dirty shoulder of the road. A Honda driver died on the scene. One passenger was taken to the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, where she later died. The age of the two was initially unknown.
The driver of the articulated lorry was not injured.
Southern Nevada’s Regional Transportation Commission said motorists should be prepared for delays. Traffic heading north has been diverted from the motorway to an alternative route.
