It’s another dose of bad news for the Fontainebleau, which has been partially completed and empty for more than a decade on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip.
Marriott International has bid farewell to a deal announced this summer to take the reins of the unfinished resort. Marriott had planned to complete the building and open it with a name change to JW Marriott Las Vegas Boulevard, but the deal was apparently thwarted by complications related to the recent change of ownership.
After several changes of ownership and name, the Fontainebleau is back in the hands of original owner Jeffrey Soffer, who says he intends to finish it but no details or schedules have been disclosed.
Poker visits down: The World Series of Poker has released attendance figures that show attendance at this year’s tournament has decreased by about a third from the last live series in 2019. The reasons are a vaccination order and international travel restrictions restricting the field to domestic players. These restrictions were recently lifted, which leads to confidence that the numbers will be better for the main event that has just begun.
Free parking spaces: To help local businesses recover from the pandemic, the city of Las Vegas is running a testing program that offers free parking on toll roads and in 12 downtown parking garages from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Look out for the “Lunch Spot Parking” signs to claim the free spaces now until the end of the year.
Question: Who won the most gold bracelets in the World Series of Poker?
Answers: The gold bracelet is awarded to the winners of the WSOP tournament. Phil Hellmuth Jr. won his 16th bracelet last month, impressively ahead of Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan and Phil Ivey, who each have 10.
