LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – As thousands flock to the Thomas & Mack Center to celebrate the triumphant return of the National Finals Rodeo, experts cite the event’s big boost to our recovering economy.

The energy was electric on Friday night when boots, bronchi and 10-gallon hats took over town.
“We’re very excited to be here,” said Jackie Neff, who was visiting Las Vegas from Texas.

“This is my first rodeo,” another NFR visitor admitted to 8 News Now; and while it may be their first rodeo, it is certainly not Southern Nevada’s.

National Final Rode – 2021

Our city has hosted the popular event since 1985, with the exception of 2020 when COVID-19 concerns caused it to get dark.

“Really glad to have it back here in Las Vegas,” another NFR visitor told 8 News Now.

Those who spoke to 8 News Now Friday said they’d itch to get back in the saddle after hitting last year.

The NFR’s footprint also pumps a lot of money into our local economy, as over 100,000 people are from across the country.

Brian Gordon, a director with local Applied Analysis firm, told us events like these have always been important, but now they’re critical as we work to bring things back to pre-pandemic levels.

“Really, it’s a critical component to the local economy,” Gordon said of the NFR. “There are a lot more special events,” he continued. “And that helps to close the gaps in which we are still limping, for example on congress trips or international trips.”

Therefore, Las Vegans planning to go out and immerse themselves in what many call the “Super Bowl of Rodeo” can know that this local excitement leads to an even better future.

“To be with everyone,” concluded Meghan Weeks on the NFR. “And everyone’s mood is so happy.”

The National Finals Rodeo started on December 2nd and will last through December 11th.
‘Cowboy Christmas’ has also returned to the Las Vegas Convention Center.
