LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Julio Maymi-Diaz, 50, has been identified as a victim following a fatal crash in downtown Las Vegas that involved 24-year-old Daysia Brown.

According to Metro police, Brown was driving under the influence of drugs when she passed a red light at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Gass and collided with a Toyota Camry in which Maymi-Diaz was a passenger.

People who worked in the victim’s building described him as a kind and polite man who loved his dog.

Local businesses are upset about the speeding and running over red lights at this intersection and say they need to stop.

“There are a lot of people traveling all over this area, and then during the construction and the locals. Usually pretty busy, ”says Ryan Figueroa, manager of the local Koolsville Tattoo company.

“I see a lot of dangerous motorists racing through, driving recklessly on the wrong side of the road and cutting people off. It gets a bit wild here sometimes … people were walking through our red lights all the time, ”continued Figueroa.

The manager claimed he observed 6 to 7 people driving through red lights in two hours and that traffic jams were increasing throughout the day.

“[It’s] People who weren’t paying attention, people who weren’t really interested anymore. You should be a bit safer than it actually is, especially during construction. But it’s getting out of hand, ”said the manager.

Daysia Brown made her first appearance in court on Saturday. Her bail was set at $ 50,000, and if released, she will be required to be under alcohol and drug monitoring and wear an electronic monitor.

“I hope you serve her with the right, with what is justified if the man loses his life and probably loses his family,” Figueroa told 8 News Now’s Sally Jaramillo.

Brown is expected to be back on trial Tuesday morning.
