Banger Brewing still going strong in downtown Las Vegas

Walking along the eastern edge of the Fremont Street Experience it’s hard to miss the silo at the entrance to Banger Brewing, and while the silo does not contain grain, it serves as a beacon to alert passers-by that fresh beer is being brewed inside .

Opened as the first brewery on Fremont Street in 2013, Banger Brewing is still the only brewery on the busy street and has gained a fan base of beer fans over the years that is roughly 60% tourists and 40% locals. Owned by Michael “Banger” Beaman, Nick Fischella, Roberto Mendoza, and Eddie Quiogue. The longtime friends had homebrewed as a group and named Beaman as their brewer, who by the time the brewpub opened had almost 10 years of brewing experience. (Beaman earned his nickname for his work ethic, at a strip restaurant where all four friends work, “knocking it out” when it gets crowded.)

The interior of the brewery is furnished with rustic wooden tables, red chairs, an epoxy floor and large windows that let in lots of natural light. An enlarged patio during the pandemic allows for more outdoor seating, not to mention plenty of people watching.

The core beers include El Heffe Jalapeño Wheat (with freshly roasted Jalapeño, Serrano, Habanero and green and red peppers), Morning Joe Coffee Kölsch (with hazelnut and French caramel coffee beans), DTB (English Brown Ale) and Sandia (fresh Watermelon, honey and orange peel). The changing seasons currently include Dangerous by Default, an English-style barley wine with 10% ABV that has matured in a Heaven Hill bourbon barrel, and Haze and Loathing, a hazy IPA with notes of hops reminiscent of pineapple and mango .

Beaman said he plans to produce many more types of beer in the coming months; He currently has 12 wine, bourbon and gin barrels full of aging beers, and Sour Solera, a Kesselsauer, and Hoppy Endings, an IPA, will be launched shortly.

A daily happy hour with a $ 2 discount on each beer is closed from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., opening times are Mon.-Fri. 12 noon-midnight and Sat-Sun 11 a.m. to midnight.
