Longtime Las Vegas residents know the Barry S. Dakake name very well. He’s one of the city’s preeminent chefs, known for years as the face and talent of N9NE Steakhouse at the Palms (a huge celebrity hangout). This restaurant closed years ago, but Dakake has made a big comeback on the Vegas dining scene in a new steakhouse at the Circa Resort & Casino that bears his name.
Although it has only been open for a few months, Barry’s Downtown Prime has quickly become a must-see for downtown visitors. For starters, it just looks fantastic – from the exclusive entrance to the retro interior, this place exudes quality and comfort. If the rat pack were there today, you’d expect to see them here every night.
What you will notice right away is how special you will feel when you are here – just like at his previous restaurant, Dakake gets in touch with customers personally, walks the floor, reviews all meals and starts conversations. His enthusiasm for food and the culinary experience is contagious. You will come back for his presence as well as for the food itself.
And what kind of food is that! From starters like the egg noodle and bone marrow luge (served with crispy pancetta, sherry wine, parmesan, reggiano and garlic butter) to starters like the classic surf and turf (accented with truffle aioli and red wine sauce), everything is included at least once on this menu to be tried. That goes for steak selections, too, from Barry’s Steak (a 12-ounce rib cap from Creekstone Farms in Arkansas) to a 40-day dry-aged, 40-ounce tomahawk. The steak sauces are a must-have, from creamy horseradish and chimichurri to au poivre and roasted shallot red wine.
Longtime fans of Dakake will immediately notice the squad called George’s Cream Corn (an N9NE favorite). This is a revelation and a real classic. Give it a try and you’ll see what we mean.
And vegans, don’t be shy! Dakake has a lot in store for you, from meatloaf to roasted cauliflower.
