Blues fans will no doubt flock to Las Vegas this week to meet one of the hottest guitarists in the genre, Joe Bonamassa. He is one of the best-selling blues guitarists of this generation, with 11 of his 15 solo albums reaching number one on the Billboard blues charts. His style is reminiscent of the sounds of Cream, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, yet feels completely original.
He has been more or less a phenomenon since he was 12 when he started his first band. Since then he has been touring legends like BB King, Greg Allman, Eric Clapton and Paul Rodgers. He also has direct connections to Las Vegas: his album Different Shades of Blue, which landed at number 8 on the Billboard 200, was recorded at the Palms.
Part of the fun of a Bonamassa show is seeing what instruments he brings on stage – he’s an avid collector of vintage guitars and amps, and has put together hundreds over his decades, including several “busted” Gibson Less Paul Standards from 1958- ’68 is considered the holy grail for guitar lovers.
