BLOOMINGTON, Illinois (WMBD) – Executives at Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington-Normal (CIRA) announced a new flight at the airport.
Bloomington Normal Airport Authority executive director Carl Olson said Frontier Airlines will be offering non-stop flights to Las Vegas, NV, twice a week starting August 12.
In just seven weeks, travelers can drop off their bags at Frontier Airlines baggage claim, fly to Las Vegas at Bloomington-Normal’s CIRA, and be non-stop in Vegas.
Olson said it was the tenth total non-stop flight the airport has offered through its partner airlines.
“This is a huge market with a great partner airline in Frontier that offers affordable fares. We believe this will be a huge success for the entire region, ”said Olson.
Olson said it was the first time since 2008 that the Vegas flights have been offered at the airport and hit a jackpot with the current air travel market.
“There is a lot of catching up to do in Leisure Travel and Frontier, and the airport firmly believes that now is a good time to resume non-stop service to Vegas,” said Olson.
They also offer free travel for children under the age of 14 on select flights with the purchase of a Discount Den member fare.
Olson said it was a great time to take a trip and have fun again now that the pandemic has improved.
“So to be able to have a family of four; two adults and two children fly there and back for under $ 200, which is fantastic. It’s a good opportunity to get out and enjoy life again, ”said Olson.
Charlie Moore, president of the McLean County Chamber of Commerce, said more leaflets in and out of the region were overall positive for the region’s businesses and the region’s economy.
“If people want to get back to normal after the post-COVID illness, this is an opportunity to open the gate both ways from Bloomington to Las Vegas as they consider convention travel, tourism travel and sports travel,” said Moore.
Frontier Airlines also offers nonstop flights from Bloomington-Normal to Denver, Colorado and Orlando FL.
Despite the reopening of most of the nation, according to TSA rules, masks are still required at all airports and on the plane to the destination.
