August 05, 2021 // Franchising.com // VANCOUVER, BC – ChopValue, manufacturer of sustainable products based on the circular economy model, is proud to announce its newest franchise in the vibrant city of Las Vegas. With micro factories already in Canada and Asia, this addition will be the first of many in the US as ChopValue works to build a micro manufacturing network that will help build better with a socially responsible approach.
Brooks Smith of Las Vegas will run the ChopValue Microfactory to help the city rethink recycled products and sustainable living. With the support of his family who have been in the restaurant business for two decades and opened 12 McDonalds in the Las Vegas area, the Smiths have a proven track record and look forward to bringing this innovative concept to life in their community.
The Las Vegas Valley is a premier entertainment and dining hub with an increasing focus on social impact and sustainability. With a population of 2.3 million people and over 40 million visitors from all corners of the world before the pandemic, there is immense potential for the urban harvest for a greener future. ChopValue Las Vegas will lead by example and demonstrate with its circular economy collected from hundreds of local Asian restaurants.
“Growing up in Las Vegas, we gave many their first jobs and watched them grow,” said Brooks Smith, president of ChopValue Las Vegas. “This has spanned generations and I am now starting to see the children of the same people working for us. I see an emerging trend of new, young talent in the professions who want to make a positive difference and I want to be able to do more for them. Having been in the restaurant industry for so long, I plan to change my narrative and try other ways to improve my community. Instead of waiting for someone in Las Vegas to make sustainable changes, I’ll be leading the circular economy in my hometown. “
ChopValue was founded in 2016 by Felix Böck, who has a degree in wood technology and industrial engineering from Germany. He was doing his PhD in Structural Bamboo Composites in Vancouver, BC, when he was inspired by the vast amount of unused wood resources on demolished construction sites. Böck tried to implement a regional program against urban wood waste, but did not find enough interest. He founded ChopValue to show how resource efficiency can turn a relatable material like chopsticks into a viable business opportunity.
Since then, the company has given a second life to over 35 million chopsticks and removed them from landfills to lead by example with a sustainable circular economy. After the chopsticks are collected from hundreds of restaurant partners, they are sorted into local micro-factories, where the production process begins and the innovative material is transformed into sustainable products and bespoke solutions.
“Although the city is known for its abundance, mega-casinos have made more environmentally conscious choices in recent years. I am excited that we can help companies address the urgency of climate change in a way that provides significant added value for job opportunities and the creation of a new resource, ”said Felix Böck, Founder and CEO of ChopValue. “We’ve had an overwhelming support from Americans shopping with us online, and with this new location, managed by Smith’s team, we’re one step closer to being as local as possible for our customers and minimizing our carbon footprint. “
From giant solar panels to implementing food waste solutions, Las Vegas’ commitment to more sustainable initiatives paves the way for a successful circular micro-factory. ChopValue Las Vegas is slated to open later this year, and Smith has already had an incredibly positive response with his initial contact with restaurant collection partners as well as companies and property developers interested in the brand’s innovative sustainable material for custom projects.
ChopValue Las Vegas is proud to establish the first site of a distributed waste-to-resource manufacturing network in the United States
