Clark County officials today announced a $ 100 incentive for unvaccinated residents to get their first COVID-19 vaccination during a two-day pop-up clinic in east Las Vegas later this month.
The first 500 unvaccinated people who show up at Eldorado High School every day – September 18-19 – will receive the gift card, officials said in a press release.
“People at high risk of COVID-19 often have less access to health care and many may still need to be vaccinated to keep their jobs,” Clark County commissioner Tick Segerblom said in the press release. “The key to getting out of the pandemic is to get our community vaccinated as high as possible. We hope that this pilot program is a special incentive for families to take a weekend break to make their recordings. ”
Segerblom previously said the $ 100,000 for the gift cards came from federal aid to COVID-19. The three vaccines will be available, including the Pfizer vaccine, which was recently fully approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
To date, according to the Nevada COVID dashboard, approximately 60% of the eligible population in Clark County had started vaccinating, while 51% were fully vaccinated. The district has reported 5,255 deaths and at least 305,401 infections since the pandemic began in March 2020.
The high school location, 1139 N. Linn Lane, off Washington Avenue, east of Nellis Boulevard, was strategically chosen because it is among the zip codes that report the most COVID-19 cases in the Las Vegas Valley, said officials.
Officials encouraged residents to reserve an appointment at vax4nv.nv.gov, although some walk-ups are also accepted. Children who receive the vaccine and are older than 12 years must be supervised by adults. Booster vaccinations will only be given to the immunocompromised as per government guidelines.
The clinic will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days, officials said, noting that only those who did not receive the vaccination are eligible for the gift card.
“It is important that we increase our vaccination rates in the hardest hit communities, and this incentive is another way to encourage people who may be on the fence to get vaccinated,” said the Clark County commissioner. William McCurdy II, in the press release.
