Travelers eagerly await news about which fun spots are open for business, and Las Vegas is a particularly popular one. Here’s what we knew when the Connection went to press in mid-August.
Effective June 1st, Las Vegas has lifted restrictions on capacity limits, large gatherings and more. More casinos are open, the hotels are fully occupied again and many entertainment venues have reopened. From July 30th, the mask requirements for interiors were reintroduced.
The good news is that getting to Las Vegas by air is even easier than it was in 2019. Domestic flights return to McCarran International Airport. Las Vegas now offers non-stop flight connections to 125 US cities – that’s 10 markets more than the city had in 2019. And in the past few months, many US airlines have announced or started new connections between Las Vegas and 40 other markets.
Here is a Las Vegas update. Everything can change, of course. So do some research in advance before buying tickets.
entertainment
Without entertainment, Las Vegas would not be the entertainment capital of the world. The shows and performances are coming again. The free (yes, free) series of concerts on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas returns, with a number of rock acts playing year round. In addition, several artists are opening new residences in Las Vegas, including Carrie Underwood, Usher and Sting, joining Barry Manilow’s long-term residences at Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino and Santana in Mandalay Bay, as well as Vegas pillars such as magic and illusionist shows, Cirque du Soleil and comedy. And several major music festivals, such as the iHeart-Radio Music Festival, are returning this fall.
If you want to experience Fremont Street in a new way, you can zipline on SlotZilla. And Fly Over Las Vegas offers an impressive flight experience.
And this year the Las Vegas Raiders kick off their first full season with fans at the brand new Allegiant Stadium. In true Vegas fashion, the Wynn Field Club options include field-level suites that span an end zone, with bottle service and DJs. The stadium will also host the 2022 Pro Bowl, as well as concerts with Garth Brooks, Illenium, and others.
The Neon Museum has reopened and is a must-see if you want to absorb the history of Las Vegas as told by its bright lights. You can take a tour of the Neon Boneyard.
One of my favorite attractions is in a new location: the Pinball Hall of Fame. If you’re a would-be pinball magician, bring plenty of quarters with you as there are around 400 working pinball machines and arcade games from the 1950s to 1990s.
kitchen
Last but not least, food is back in Las Vegas too. Many of the popular celebrity chef restaurants are reopening, and some notable new ones are opening their doors as well. And yes, some of Las Vegas’ famous buffets are open again.
