Whether you dine for a traditional brunch on dumplings, a full lunch or an early dinner, giant dim sum is abundant in the Las Vegas Valley and seems to be growing in popularity every year.
There has always been a great variety of Chinese cuisine in Las Vegas resorts and the surrounding area, but this specialty is really flourishing these days.
On the Gold Coast right on the strip Ping pang pong (702.247.8136) has long been considered one of the city’s dim sum institutions. The sprawling, bustling dining room feels like a traditional dim sum parlor, and the quick service ensures that everything runs smoothly. While the menu of Chinese favorites extends well beyond dim sum, this is one of the best spots for memorable bites like deep-fried prawn balls, soft-shell crabs wrapped in rice paper, pork pot stickers, and more.
Right across from the Rio, KJ Dim Sum & Seafood (702.777.2333) is another long-time favorite with locals and tourists, a restaurant that began in the Chinatown District of Las Vegas before expanding with this dynamic dining room right across from the Carnival World Buffet. Authentic noodle and dumpling dishes are at the heart of the all-day menu, and you shouldn’t miss the Crystal Shrimp Har Gow or Pork Siu Mai.
On the strip, the palazzo is beautiful Mott 32 (702.607.3232) is another nifty Chinese restaurant that happens to serve some of the tastiest dim sum anywhere. The full menu covers the flavors of Hong Kong, but the dumplings you have to eat are the Shanghai-style Iberico spicy and sour pork soup dumplings, a masterpiece of a bite. Wild mushroom and water chestnut dumplings and sugar-coated and baked pork rolls are definitely worth a visit.
From Tai Fung (702.590.8650) is a household name in the game of dim sum on a global scale, with dozen of locations in the US and Asia, Australia and the UK. Its only location in Las Vegas is a fresh and cool restaurant in Aria, where friends and families gather for bamboo steamer full of Shanghai soup dumplings, also known as Xiao Long Bao, as well as spicy pork or chicken wantons, vegan dumplings wrapped in light green, steamed buns and expertly fried vegetables like pak choy, broccoli, and mustard share greens. It’s a delicious dining experience that has finally found a real home on the Strip.
The newest dim sum destination in Las Vegas is on West Flamingo Road and comes from veteran chef Kenny Chye, a culinary artist who continues to create the blueprint for vegan Chinese food in Las Vegas. After successfully launching several different restaurant concepts in recent years, he has just opened Vegan Dim Sum from Chef Kenny (702.251.3920) where all of those familiar flavors and dishes come to life without the meat.
Chye makes its own mixes of meat substitutes from soy, vegetables, and other plant-based ingredients to create brilliant interpretations of Siu Mai, Hargow, Sesame Balls, Fried Chive Pie, and other dim sum dishes that will make you believe eating pork, shrimp, chicken again and beef. But it’s not about tricks in this cozy new place; It’s all about a delicious dim sum experience that will quench any food cravings.
