LAS VEGAS (AP / KLAS) – Dangerously hot weather conditions have moved into the Las Vegas Valley. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued an excessive heat warning for the Las Vegas Metro area on Wednesday. It runs until Monday evening.

On Friday we broke the record of 113 degrees from 2012 with a high of 116 degrees. By the weekend, we could hit or beat the all-time record high for Las Vegas of 117 degrees.

Las Vegas has hit 117 four times, according to the record books. The last time was in 2017.

In case you haven’t heard it, it’s going to be HOT in #Vegas this weekend!

Due to the warning, cooling stations will be activated throughout the valley from July 7th to 12th.

Chief meteorologist Tedd Florendo says we can expect new record highs and lows during the ongoing heat wave.

Forecasts show that the lows will only drop to 90 degrees overnight, as increased cloud cover at the end of the week could minimize any nighttime relief from the heat.

Because of the potential for heat-related illnesses, the weather service advises residents to drink plenty, stay in air-conditioned rooms, avoid the sun, and look for relatives and neighbors.

Extreme heat is announced until Monday 🌡️
