FC Tucson Women took over the Desert Conference of the Women’s Professional Soccer League (WPSL) on Sunday with a 5-1 win over Atomic City FC from Las Vegas. Tucson improved to 3-0 while Las Vegas fell to 2-1.

Tucson will travel to Arizona FC on Saturday, June 19th at 7pm (2-2). The game takes place at Campo Verde High School. FC Tucson Women defeated FC Arizona 2-0 on June 9th.

In the game, Erin Craig scored after a rebound of Easy duarte in the 17th minute and Bailey Jordan Craig shot into the net in 48th. Las Vegas halved the lead at 56th (Allyssa Larkin), but consecutive goals at 65th (Duarte by Haley Harris) and 67 (Bailey) put the game out of reach, and one final goal in the 90th (Craig) minute made it 5 : 1 after a put-back of Giselle Mata.

An expansion team, Atomic City FC, visits Tucson on June 25th at 7pm at the North Stadium Cinema. Ticket INFO.

The WPSL will have no playoffs this year due to ongoing pandemic travel problems, so each conference will crown a champion. Tucson Women FC won the Pac South Conference Championship in 2018 under the former head coach Amy Garelick. Former player and current head coach Kelly Pierce was named West Region Pac South Conference Desert Division Coach of the Year the following summer, and the program received its second Franchise of the Year award. There was no season in 2020.
