Sales on Rainbow Boulevard bring a third Asian-inspired menu to a small space in the southwest, now run by a former head sushi chef at the Mirage and the Venetian.
Takashi Nakamura started Takumi Izakaya near the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Robindale Road. The ramen show, run by local restaurateur Go Hoashi, has been running in the 916-square-foot former home of Ted’s Sushi Burritos for the past two years.
The new restaurant encourages diners to share izakaya-style tapas dishes and also try a sushi, nigiri, and sashimi menu similar to the one found in Takashi’s now-closed Hidaka Sushi on the east side.
Customers can sit across from the sushi chefs or at individual tables and order starters with octopus and wasabi, kakuni pork and shark bones with plum sauce.
Under the small plates are cold tofu, egg omelette, baked yellowtail cheeks, grilled mackerel and butter mushrooms. The long menu also features chirashi bowls, plenty of buns, and bento boxes for lunch.
Chef Takashi’s résumé includes Mikado at Mirage, Tsunami Asian Grill & Sushi Bar at Venetian, local chain Xtreme Sushi, and Sushi Takashi on Spring Mountain Road.
Takumi Izakaya, 7835 S. Rainbow Boulevard, # 7, 702-462-6723. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm to 10pm
