LAS VEGAS (AP) – New charges against a Las Vegas man accused of killing his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son have been postponed.

KLAS-TV reports that 27-year-old Terrell Rhodes, who is already charged with murder, was due to appear in court on Monday.

New counts included resistance to an officer with a firearm and four charges of assaulting a protected person with a lethal weapon.

It was not immediately known whether Rhodes had a lawyer to speak on his behalf.

The indictment will now take place on June 1st.

Amari Nicholson, 2, disappeared from the Emerald Suites Apartments on Paradise Road on May 5. Police were called to the location twice that day by Amari’s mother, Tayler Nicholson, who was absent. She said Rhodes told her that a woman showed up at the couple’s apartment that morning and picked up Amari after saying she had permission.

The family, volunteers and police searched for the boy for several days.

In court documents, investigators say Rhodes eventually confessed to fatally beating Amari after the toddler urinated in his pants the day he was reported missing.
