LAS VEGAS (KTNV) – The film “Take Out Girl”, shot in Las Vegas, is getting a lot of attention in the film festival world because of its plot and variety.
“This story comes from a very authentic location,” said Hedy Wong, the film’s lead actress and co-writer.
The film reflects real events in Hedy Wong’s life.
She describes her character Tera as a young and naive girl who decides to take drastic measures to save her mother’s ailing Chinese restaurant, including running errands for a local drug lord. Everything inspired by real events.
“I went through a lot during this time in my life and didn’t feel like thinking up anything anymore. So I wrote from a place of truth, ”said Hedy Wong.
But Hedy wants people to know that she’s not glorifying that part of the story. Rather, you stay true to your personal experiences.
She says the main purpose of the film is family, culture, and connecting with people from all walks of life.
“I feel like we’re adding some much-needed texture to the Asian-American narrative that’s being shown in Hollywood,” said Hedy Wong.
“This film is really important for us to show the Asian youth characters with all our tastes, our joy, our mistakes. It’s all in here so you can see it. “
The film already clicks with the audience.
Las Vegas resident director Hisonni Johnson says the film exceeded expectations. He originally hoped to win at least one award, but now he and his team are walking away with nearly 20 awards and attending 40 film festivals.
It was Hisonni’s creative spirit that made the filming possible. He was able to turn parts of our church into parts of Los Angeles.
“We shot here in the Soulfire dance studio, we shot at my house, we shot down on the strip. I mean, like my mother used to say, don’t leave meat on the bone, ”said Hisonni.
Both Hedy and Hisonni are optimistic that the film will help viewers realize that our community is more similar than different. She hopes her story will bring more people together.
“It’s family, it’s hope, it underscores the struggles of immigrant families and mainstream society,” Hedy said. “You may speak a different language and the food smells different, but at the end of the day when we cry, when we laugh. It’s all the same. “
“Take Out Girl” is available on Amazon Streaming, iTunes, and more.
