MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens interim coach Dominique Ducharme says injured striker Jake Evans is making progress and will travel to Vegas with the team for the start of the Stanley Cup semi-finals.
Evans suffered a concussion on June 2 when he was leveled by Winnipeg Jets center Mark Scheifele in the final moments of Montreal’s 5-3 win in the second round opener.
Scheifele was suspended for four games because of the devastating blow and the Canadiens swept the Jets into the semifinals, where they will face the Golden Knights from Monday.
Ducharme says Evans ran Friday and Saturday and may be away from injury three or four days before returning, but the team want to make sure he’s 100 percent healthy before being put back on the line-up.
The 25-year-old Evans has scored one goal and one assist in four playoff games this season.
Ducharme says injured defenders Jeff Petry and Jon Merrill will also travel to Vegas.
