The California governor Gavin Newsom has planned a joint project with the state of Nevada to at least nominally expand the I-15 between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Part of a joint effort to attract more tourists to both regions and reduce overall congestion for things like long-haul truck drivers, the plan will widen a long section of the freeway during rush hour by allowing drivers to take a Newly paved and newly paved road to be used – striped section of the highway shoulder. While it’s not a permanent solution (ahem, train) or a particularly futuristic solution, given California’s climate problems, the move could allow more travel between two of the west’s densest population centers – and that’s good news for many restaurants, hotels, and vendors along the way .
Downtown’s new boss (a)
The Brazilian classic Bossa Nova will soon open near downtown LA on 321 W. Olympic Boulevard. The restaurant’s first official night is December 27, but diners who want to try the food can check out their other locations in Hollywood, South Bay, and beyond until then.
DJ spins and a sip of champagne
Would you like something different for New Year’s Eve? Soulmate in West Hollywood transforms the standard tasting menu service for a more relaxed lounge atmosphere, complete with a DJ, luxurious multi-course bites, and lots of couches and flowing champagne. Midnight balloon drop is included and costs $ 275 for late seat seating.
One for the wine nerds
Some in-depth wine news from Santa Barbara: Fiddlestix vineyard owner Kathy Joseph sold her property to Justin Willett of Tyler Wines and partners Erik Mallea, Todd Gray and William Borgers. The local group of owners will continue to produce primarily Pinot grapes on the influential property (rather than handing it over to company owners), which is known for supplying grapes to labels like Hitching Post, Dragonette, and more.
Growth in food
A chic new ghost kitchen and food hall called Partake Collective is coming soon in Long Beach. The project will provide new and existing brands of kitchen space as well as a consumer-oriented dining area and snack room. The Long Beach location will open at 456 Elm Avenue next spring. A second location (and space for 15 tenants as well as a rentable bar area on 17,000 square meters) will later end up in the Los Angeles district of Glassell Park.
