After months of pandemic closures and restrictions, Las Vegas is finally ready to fully reopen its hotel resorts, casinos, and restaurants.
As of 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, vaccinated people will not have to wear masks or practice social distancing. There are currently no social distancing or occupancy restrictions in any of Nevada’s counties, but that could change if there is a surge in infections.
Previously, casinos with 80 percent of employees vaccinated could be 100 percent busy, but several venues didn’t reach that threshold. Everyone is back in business now.
Large gatherings and dance clubs are also back and without restrictions.
The city is also preparing for its first major congress in more than a year. The World of Concrete trade show will take place June 7-10 at the Las Vegas Convention Center and will bring a much-needed component back to the city’s economic vitality.
The show operates according to previously agreed guidelines, with capacity being kept at 80 percent and with a social distance of one meter. Temperature screenings, hand disinfection stations and extra-wide corridors are implemented. However, proof of vaccination is not required.
While the city welcomes the return to normal, cautious observers still prevail.
“It feels like we’re in the front seat of a roller coaster,” Alan Feldman, a distinguished fellow at the International Gaming Institute at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, told the Washington Post. “We see a clear sky in front of us, but will we continue to rise – or will we set?”
A good test will arrive this Memorial Day weekend as travel forecasts predict that Las Vegas will be one of the most popular travel destinations in the country.
