A homeless assistance event that is expected to help up to 1,500 people west of Las Vegas on Wednesday is still looking for volunteers and donations.
The Homeless Connect project, which enlists homeless or vulnerable people in programs and organizations that can provide relief, is open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Pearson Community Center, 1625 W. Carey Ave.
According to Clark County, one of three agencies coordinating the event, the free program is expected to include around 50 organizations that specialize in services such as housing, professional training, counseling, and substance abuse treatment.
Project Homeless Connect is expecting around 250 volunteers, but is looking for even more to help set up on Tuesday and during the actual event on Wednesday.
Volunteers interested in helping both days should register online at https://signup.com/go/UDWCWTy or email Corina Marquez at corina@nevadahomelessalliance.org.
New or carefully used clothing and durable food are still needed and can be returned to the community center on Tuesdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The county and the Southern Nevada Homelessness Continuum of Care are partnering with the Nevada Homeless Alliance, sponsored by The Venetian, the Wells Fargo Charitable Foundation and MGM Resorts International, on the event.
