HENDERSON, Nevada – Las Vegas Raiders running back Kenyan Drake will be traveling “in a few days” to have surgery on his broken right ankle at the end of the season in Birmingham, Alabama, Raiders interim coach Rich Bisaccia said Monday in its weekly press conference.
Drake, carted off the field in the middle of the second quarter of the Raiders’ 17-15 defeat after being attacked and awkwardly knocked down from behind by Washington’s Daniel Wise, went to Twitter on Sunday night to say the tackle that made him injured, “should be an illegal form of attack like a horse’s collar.”
Bisaccia said Monday that Drake was frustrated having sustained a similar injury last season when he sustained a high sprained right ankle in a week 7 game for the Arizona Cardinals against the Seattle Seahawks. He missed a game with this injury.
“When you look at the piece on tape, it didn’t look intentional,” said Bisaccia. “I think he ended up in a weird body position when he was done …
“Of course it was a roll-up position in the end.”
Drake, 27, signed a two-year free agent deal valued at $ 14.5 million, with $ 11 million guaranteed this off-season with the Raiders. A versatile change to complement starter Josh Jacobs. Drake stormed for 254 yards and two touchdowns at 63 carries and caught 29 passes for 283 yards and a TD. He also returned 10 kickoffs for 192 yards for the Raiders.
The Raiders have also lost full-back Alec Ingold for the season with a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee and backup running back Jalen Richard was added to the COVID list the morning of the game in Washington.
