Main Street Central Station is back.
The hotel-casino in downtown Las Vegas opens at 6 a.m. on Wednesday and is the first time the Victorian-style property has welcomed guests since the pandemic closed the casino in March 2020.
Main Street Station was one of two Boyd Gaming Corp. buildings that remained closed after it was closed; Eastside Cannery is the other.
Boyd has no special events planned for a so-called soft opening, spokesman David Strow said on Tuesday. The reopening of Main Street Station means all three hotel casinos in downtown Boyd – Fremont and California Hotel are the other two – are operational.
Main Street will reopen 24/7, although the two restaurants will open with limited hours, Boyd announced last month. The Triple 7 Restaurant and Microbrewery is open Thursday through Monday from 5:00 PM to 12:00 AM, and the Garden Court Buffet is open daily from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM for brunch and Friday and Saturday from 4:00 PM be open for dinner until 9:00 p.m.
Boyd executives had previously said demand would set the timing for the two-yet-to-be-reopened properties, Main Street and Eastside Cannery. The time has come for Main Street as Boyd is “very busy” at neighboring California and Fremont hotels, Strow said last month.
Still closed
Eastside Cannery has no opening date. Strow said last month that Boyd had seen “good business trends” on his other lot on Boulder Highway, Sam’s Town, “but we haven’t got to a point where we need to open a second lot on the Boulder Strip.”
Several other casinos in southern Nevada will remain closed.
Station Casinos has no plans to open any of its three closed hotels this year. Company executives will consider reopening Fiesta Henderson, Fiesta Rancho or Texas Station “if and when we believe they can increase the absolute profitability of the company in the future,” CEO Frank Fertitta III told investors on a conference call on July 28th.
In June, Texas Station and Fiesta Rancho extended their inoperative status for the second consecutive year to June 4, 2022. Fiesta Henderson received Henderson City Council approval in May to remain out of service until the end of the year.
In addition, Station Casino’s parent company Red Rock Resorts is selling the Palms to the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. The deal prohibits Red Rock Resorts from reopening Palms.
Cal-Nev-Ari Casino and Bar stayed open during the day, but only because it also doubles as a post office. Cal-Nev-Ari reopened its bar on April 1st, but the slot machines won’t be playable until spring at the earliest.
Mining company Heart of Nature, whose parent company Universal Green Technology recently bought most of the small town along with its bar, is looking for a game company that supplies and maintains slot machines, Heart of Nature president Jerry Tyler said via text message Tuesday. He estimated that it would take six to eight months to acquire a gaming license and find a gaming company to rent out the premises.
“But we’re going to bring pool tables and electric darts games to the bar to fill in the void and give our residents some joy while waiting,” he said, adding a thumbs-up emoji.
Two casinos in Northern Nevada were permanently closed last year; Harrah’s Reno and Lakeside Inn and Casino in Stateline.
