LAS VEGAS (FOX5) – Oakland Athletics baseball team officials will head to Las Vegas next week, a team spokesperson confirmed.
Details of the trip were not immediately known.
Major League Baseball advised athletics earlier this month to consider moving options as the team tries to secure a new waterfront ballpark that it hopes will keep the club in Oakland for the long term.
The news sparked rumors and discussions about a move to Las Vegas, much like the recent Las Vegas Raiders move.
Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred has named as potential expansion candidates: Charlotte, North Carolina; Las Vegas; Montreal; Nashville, Tennessee; Portland, Oregon; and Vancouver, British Columbia.
“We’ll keep playing in Oakland until something changes,” A manager Bob Melvin said before a game in Boston.
This is a developing story.
