LAS VEGAS (FOX5) – Las Vegas police said a person died after the car they were in crashed into a traffic light post early Saturday morning.
At around 4 a.m. on May 8, police said a red 1999 Ford Ranger was traveling east on Tropicana Avenue near Paradise Road when the crash occurred.
The 24-year-old driver, who was seriously injured, “was unable to maintain the vehicle’s lane, causing the Ford to leave the road and collide with a large traffic signal post,” police said.
Both the driver and his 22-year-old passenger were taken to Sunrise Hospital, where the passenger died. He was identified as Justin Anderson, 22, on Monday.
Police said the driver, Leobardo Hernandez, had shown signs of impairment and was being charged. He was admitted to the Clark County Detention Center for DUI over the legal limit and failed to maintain or change lanes improperly. He is expected in court on May 9th.
This marked the 45th traffic-related death for LVMPD in 2021.
