With a new brand that no longer mentions malls, organizers of a major retail property conference are returning to Las Vegas.

Innovating Commerce Serving Communities, the brand unveiled this week by the International Council of Shopping Centers, will take place December 5-7 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The trade association brings “the industry together live and in person on the largest deal-making floor of the year,” it said in an email on Thursday.

“Did someone say Vegas?” the subject line declared.

The Las Vegas conference is known as the RECon. According to a press release on Monday announcing the group’s new name, their “signature events, including RECon, will also be renamed to align with the new ICSC brand.”

The renaming is happening as people increasingly shop online, a shift that only accelerated during the pandemic as people worked from home or rarely ventured out in fear of the new coronavirus, and brick and mortar retail stores last year because of the Temporarily closed during the outbreak.

The Las Vegas convention industry went dark after the pandemic outbreak last year and is only now beginning to re-emerge.

RECon, for example, was scheduled for May 17-19, 2020 at the Las Vegas Convention Center and was expected to attract 37,000 attendees before organizers put the event on hold.
