The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians (SMBMI) donated $ 100,000 to the nonprofit Three Square Food Bank in Las Vegas.

According to the tribe, the donation will provide over 300,000 meals to individuals and families affected by food insecurity in southern Nevada.

“Food insecurity remains above pre-pandemic levels – nearly 364,000 southern Nevada residents, or one in six, don’t know where their next meal is coming from,” said Brian Burton, President and CEO of Three Square.

“This incredible support from the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians is changing the lives of our many needy neighbors. Words will never convey how grateful we are to the tribe for joining us in the fight against hunger. “

This is the latest charitable grant from the nationally recognized Indian tribe who own and operate the recently renamed Yaamava ‘Resort and Casino in San Manuel, San Bernardino County, Southern California.

As of January 2020, the SMBMI has given over $ 9.3 million to educational institutions and charities in Vegas, and this foundation, the tribe said, will continue to “empower healthy and resilient communities as stewards of land and the environment.”

Ken Ramirez, Chairman of SMBMI, commented on his community service commitments: “It is important for our tribe that we work to influence and change the lives of those in need and facing economic challenges.”

“Our tribe pride themselves on the community dedication and support we have provided in Southern California and throughout the Indian country, and we are honored and honored to continue this tradition of giving here in Las Vegas.”

That news comes as the SMBMI plans to acquire the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, pending regulatory approval.
